A Model to Support Sustainable Resource Management in the “Etna River Valleys” Biosphere Reserve: The Dominance-Based Rough Set Approach

For several decades, studies and conventions have highlighted the importance of ecosystem services provided by natural resources biodiversity for humanity need to move their management towards a sustainable model. Inthe United Nations 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development (2015), among its 17 Goals (SDGs), there isalsoSDG 15, “Life on Land”, specifically dedicated biodiversity, forests desertification. The aim is “sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt reverse land degradation, loss bio-diversity”. UNESCO “MAB—Man Biosphere” Programme could achieve this goal establishing Biosphere Reserves (BRs). Among them, establishment BR “Etna river valleys” an opportunity adopt development models in Park system” (UNESCO site since 2013) regeneration virtuous relationships between cities rural areas promotion conservation through strategies territorial enhancement with multifunctional vision agriculture territory. This research aims provide, methodology “Rough Sets”, useful tool support strategic choices that stakeholders will be called upon make complex environmental, cultural economic mosaic characterises valleys”.The results show both weaknesses strengths transition model, which nonethelesshave supported accompanied information financial support.
